Lo-Fi Beats to Slack To: A Review
Music
We spent a week inside the internet’s cosiest genre. A field report on the music designed to be not-quite-listened-to.
There is a whole genre of music engineered to be ignored, and we mean that as the highest compliment. Lo-fi beats exist in the background of your life like comfortable furniture you can hear.
What we tested
- Focus playlists — good for pretending to work.
- Rainy-day mixes — dangerously effective naptime fuel.
- “Beats to relax/study to” — the cartoon girl is still studying. She has been studying for eight years. We admire her commitment.
Verdict
Four out of five couches. Deducted one point because occasionally a track is too good and you accidentally start paying attention, which defeats the purpose entirely.
